There are a variety of ways to fish on the Outer Banks: Fishing the Piers is popular most of the time. However the Kitty Hawk Pier disappeared in the last storm and is no longer open to the general public. That leaves the Avalon Pier and the Nags Head Pier. Closest to Goose Villa is the Avalon Pier at the 6 Mile marker. There is a day fee or a bit cheaper if you get a three day or seven day pass. Various species come and go, but blue fish are caught all summer. They aren't large, but they put up a good fight on light tackle. Most are caught with the "Gotcha" lure. The fishing center at Oregon Inlet is the place to go to arrange a charter for offshore fishing. It isn't cheap, but you can expect to come home with some good size fish like Tuna. Or, for less money you can stay closer to store and bottom fish for lots of fun. Surf fishing anywhere from out beach to Oregon Inlet is always fun and filled with possibilities, but doesn't necessarily offer the greatest probabilities during the warmer months. If you have personal access to a boat there can be some good Stripped Bass fishing in the sound. You can put your boat in at the Southern Shore Marina. The season is closed during the summer so catch and release is the order of the day. Casting with light tackle between the pilings under the Wright Memorial Bridge with yellow jigs, white jigs, and 3" plastic fish baits can be quite productive and loads of fun. Early morning or late evening is best. Another area of growing popularity is Fly Fishing. Rumor has it that it is quite good fishing on Bodie Island somewhere in the vicinity of the Lighthouse
